Sounds of the South West

Bath Record Office is taking part in the Sounds of the South West (SoSW) project which is a partnership between archives in the south west of England with the purpose of preserving rare and at-risk audio recordings. Funding has been provided by the National Lottery Heritage Fund for a one-year development phase in 2025, with the aim of continuing the project through additional funding for a further three to four years.

The Sounds of the South West project will preserve rare and at-risk audio heritage from across the south west of England. This archive material, stored on outdated audio formats, is in danger of being lost due to the degradation of their format and reliance on accessibility through machines that are no longer in use.

Having digitised over 100 audio records, we need to work on cataloguing, transcribing and rights clearance before we make these fully accessible to the public.
