Black History Matters - Online Exhibition

This online exhibition explores the presence of black people in Bath from the 18th century to today. The people and stories we have highlighted shed light on some of the better and lesser-known personalities who have shaped Bath's black history.

It is just a selection and we know there is great potential to further develop this aspect of Bath's history through research and interpretation. We recognise that more work needs to be done to identify sources of information which can help us to tell a more complete story of Bath's ethnic diversity, and that we need to enhance our collections to reflect and represent all communities who live or have lived in Bath & North East Somerset.

Bath Record Office would love to hear from you if you have stories to tell or records, in any format, which document ethnic minority communities in Bath. It is so important to capture the lives of our diverse communities in Bath & North East Somerset so that future generations can better understand our society.
