Deaths: accident at Camerton coal works on Mon se'nnight - lad c 16 yrs killed when in room with 6 or 7 barrels of gunpowder which ignited by spark from boot. Thatch & works round the coal pit caught fire, but were soon extinguished.

Sport: a trotting match, 2 miles for £50 took place on Friday morning on the Lower Bristol Road between Mr Drewitt's of Keynsham, black pony & Mr Francis's of Bitton, bay mare. The pony beat the mare by near 300 yds, having trotted 2 miles within 6½ minutes.
